DragonSword Awakening Classes Guide – Best Character Class

One of my favorite things about DragonSword: Awakening is that no two characters feel the same. You aren’t just picking a weapon or an element you’re choosing a completely different combat experience. Some heroes fly around the battlefield chaining aerial combos, while others summon allies, rain arrows from a distance, or stand their ground behind a massive shield.

If you’re just starting out, it’s easy to wonder which class suits your playstyle. The game doesn’t lock you into one forever, but knowing what each character specializes in can help you spend your early Fate Invitations wisely.

Below is a breakdown of every current class and character, along with the type of player each one is designed for.

Charlotte (Assassin Class)

Charlotte is a lightning-fast assassin who thrives on mobility, poison attacks, and stylish aerial combos, making her one of the most exciting characters for aggressive players.

Charlotte is built for players who enjoy staying on the move. She constantly flips around enemies, creates shadow clones to distract opponents, and quickly builds multiple status effects during combat. Her attacks can apply Poison, Airborne, and Knockdown, allowing her to trigger powerful combo opportunities.

If you’re the type of player who likes flashy combat and doesn’t mind staying close to enemies, Charlotte feels incredibly rewarding once you learn her moves.

Best for:

  • Fast-paced combat
  • Assassin gameplay
  • Combo enthusiasts
  • High mobility

Roxy (Ranger Class)

Roxy is a highly mobile ranged fighter who uses a bow to apply Bleed while staying safely away from danger.

Unlike traditional archers that stay rooted in place, Roxy is constantly moving. She dashes through enemies, rapidly fires arrows, and keeps pressure on opponents without sacrificing mobility.

Her Bleed damage also makes her excellent against bosses that survive longer fights.

If you usually enjoy archers in RPGs but dislike standing still, Roxy offers one of the smoothest ranged playstyles in the game.

Best for:

  • Bow users
  • Mobile ranged combat
  • Safe boss fighting

Theresia (Flail Warrior Class)

Theresia is an aggressive melee fighter whose chained flails hit huge areas, making her exceptional at clearing groups of enemies.

Her unique weapon gives her far more reach than most melee characters. Every swing covers a large area, allowing her to damage multiple enemies while applying Bleed and Stun.

She feels powerful without being overly complicated, making her an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced players.

Best for:

  • Crowd control
  • Fast melee combat
  • Large attack range

Donna (Summoner Class)

Donna fights alongside a powerful ice companion, making her the perfect choice for players who enjoy strategic, summon-based combat.

Rather than relying entirely on her own attacks, Donna summons Choco, an ice golem that fights independently. While Choco keeps enemies occupied, Donna can safely cast additional abilities or reposition herself.

The summon can even transform into a defensive shield when needed, adding another layer of utility.

Even if you’ve never been interested in summoner classes before, Donna offers a fun and beginner-friendly take on the archetype.

Best for:

  • Summoner fans
  • Strategic gameplay
  • Defensive players

Alex (Guardian Class)

Alex is a traditional sword-and-shield guardian who focuses on blocking attacks, surviving longer battles, and countering enemies.

Instead of relying on speed, Alex rewards patience and timing. His shield can block incoming attacks during several abilities, and his Guard Stance lets him absorb damage before launching counterattacks.

If you prefer steady, methodical combat over flashy combos, Alex is a comfortable choice.

Best for:

  • Defensive gameplay
  • Tank builds
  • Counterattack lovers

Eileen (Halberd Class)

Eileen uses a long-reaching halberd to control the battlefield while supporting teammates with buffs.

Her attacks strike from a safer distance than most melee characters, making her easier to play against larger enemies. She can also launch opponents into the air while boosting nearby allies with her battle banner.

Eileen is a solid middle ground between offense and support.

Best for:

  • Polearm users
  • Balanced combat
  • Team support

Kalin (Fire Mage Class)

Kalin is a fire mage who overwhelms enemies with explosive magic and devastating Burn damage.

Her fiery fox spirits chase enemies before exploding, creating satisfying chain reactions during combat. She isn’t the most technical character to learn, but she’s extremely effective at dealing consistent elemental damage.

Players who love spellcasters will feel right at home.

Best for:

  • Fire magic
  • Elemental builds
  • Ranged spellcasting

Raina (Swordmaster Class)

Raina specializes in launching enemies into the air and keeping them there with powerful aerial combos.

Almost everything about her kit revolves around Airborne attacks. She quickly sends enemies flying before following them into the sky for extended combo strings.

Her straightforward moveset makes her easy to learn while still offering plenty of room to improve.

Best for:

  • Air juggle combat
  • Sword users
  • Combo-focused players

Scion (Relic Caster Class)

Scion controls a magical relic that deals area damage while supporting the team with powerful buffs.

Rather than relying on quick attacks, Scion places magical relics around the battlefield that damage enemies while enhancing allies.

He requires a little more planning than other characters but rewards players who enjoy supporting their team.

Best for:

  • Support builds
  • Area control
  • Utility-focused gameplay

Tart (Lightning Mage Class)

Tart channels powerful lightning spells to shock enemies from a distance while controlling the battlefield with electrical magic.

Her abilities focus on sustained magical damage rather than burst attacks. She can charge powerful lightning strikes and fill areas with dangerous electrical effects.

Players who enjoy traditional wizard-style combat will appreciate her slower, deliberate playstyle.

Best for:

  • Lightning magic
  • Spellcasting
  • Long-range combat

Astria (Crossbow Class)

Astria is a tactical crossbow user who excels at dealing heavy ranged damage from safe positions before switching to teammates.

Unlike faster ranged characters, Astria rewards careful positioning. She can transform into a stationary siege weapon for stronger attacks or fire wide spreads of bolts to damage multiple enemies.

Because she frequently stops to reload, she works best when paired with aggressive melee teammates.

Best for:

  • Sniper gameplay
  • Tactical combat
  • Long-range damage

Which Class Should You Choose?

There’s no single “best” class in DragonSword: Awakening because each one offers a completely different experience. Instead of asking which character is strongest, it’s better to ask which style sounds the most enjoyable.

  • Love fast, flashy combat? Charlotte is hard to beat.
  • Prefer staying at range? Roxy is an excellent choice.
  • Want huge melee attacks? Theresia delivers satisfying crowd control.
  • Enjoy commanding companions? Donna’s summoner gameplay feels unique.
  • Like playing defensively? Alex offers reliable protection and counters.
  • Want balanced melee with support? Eileen is worth considering.
  • Love throwing explosive spells? Kalin fits perfectly.
  • Want stylish aerial combos? Raina is built around them.
  • Prefer supporting your team? Scion brings useful buffs.
  • Enjoy classic mage gameplay? Tart focuses on powerful lightning magic.
  • Like picking enemies off from afar? Astria’s crossbow delivers steady ranged damage.

DragonSword: Awakening gives every class its own identity instead of making them feel like simple stat variations. Whether you enjoy darting around as an assassin, controlling the battlefield with magic, protecting allies with a shield, or letting a giant summon do the heavy lifting, there’s a character that fits your preferred playstyle.

The best advice is to experiment whenever you unlock a new hero. You might start the game thinking you’re a dedicated archer player, only to discover that soaring through the air with Raina or chaining poison combos with Charlotte ends up being far more fun than you expected. That’s part of what makes DragonSword’s combat system so enjoyable.
