Grand Alfheim Magic Guide – All Magic Types Explained

Magic is one of the most exciting progression systems in Grand Alfheim. While you won’t immediately unlock every spell, your choice of race will eventually determine which magic element you can master once the game fully releases.

During the current testing phase, magic isn’t permanently tied to races, allowing players to experiment. However, the developers have confirmed that magic will become race-locked in the full release, so choosing your race will have a much bigger impact later.

Each magic type is designed with two different playstyles in mind:

  • Combat Build – Focuses on dealing damage or controlling enemies.
  • Support Build – Helps allies through healing, buffs, shields, or crowd control.

Eventually, every magic element is planned to feature six unlockable skills, along with upgrades that let you specialize your build.

Grand Alfheim Magic Guide – All Magic Types Explained

Unlike weapons or classes, magic is closely connected to your character’s race.

Each of the nine races has its own exclusive elemental magic, giving every race a unique identity. Rather than every player using the same spells, races are intended to feel completely different from one another.

If you’re planning your character for the long term, it’s worth choosing a race based on the type of magic you eventually want to use.

Water Magic (Undine)

Water Magic is one of the most versatile magic types in the game.

Its combat abilities focus on controlling enemies instead of simply dealing raw damage. Slowing or immobilizing opponents creates opportunities for melee teammates to finish fights safely.

On the support side, Water Magic is expected to become the strongest healing magic available.

  • Immobilize enemies
  • Crowd control
  • Create openings for teammates

Support Focus

Illusion Magic (Spriggan)

The support specialization hasn’t been fully revealed yet, but it’s expected to focus on utility rather than direct healing.

Which Magic is Best?

There’s no single “best” magic since each one fills a different role.

Here’s a quick overview:

Magic Best At
Water Healing and crowd control
Illusion Deception and trickery
Lightning Counters and stuns
Curse Debuffs and protection
Summoning Fighting alongside companions
Wind Long-range damage and mobility
Fire High damage output
Music Team buffs
Earth Defense and shielding

As more skills are added and balance changes arrive, the strongest magic will likely change over time. For now, it’s better to choose the race and magic that match your preferred playstyle rather than chasing a temporary meta.
