If you’ve just started playing Path of Kings, one thing becomes obvious pretty quickly—you only have three hero slots, so every hero you invest in matters. Resources aren’t exactly unlimited early on, and upgrading the wrong hero can slow your progress more than you’d expect.
After spending plenty of time testing different heroes, comparing their base stats, and seeing how they perform in both PvE and PvP, it’s clear that some heroes are simply more valuable than others. While equipment plays a huge role in every build, each hero has natural strengths that make them excel in certain roles.
One thing I’d recommend before worrying too much about rankings is to always keep all three hero slots filled. Even if your third hero isn’t amazing, having an extra body on the battlefield is almost always better than leaving a slot empty.
With that out of the way, let’s break down every hero and see who deserves your resources.
Path of Kings Hero Tier List
S Tier Heroes
These are the heroes that can carry your account well into the late game and fit into almost every team composition.
Vampire
If there’s one hero I’d recommend unlocking as soon as possible, it’s the Vampire.
The reason is pretty simple—it combines Bleed and Lifesteal, two of the strongest mechanics currently available.
Bleed constantly chips away at enemies even after your attack ends, making boss fights much easier. Lifesteal keeps the Vampire alive by restoring health every time it attacks, which means it often survives much longer than other damage dealers.
When paired with one or two tank heroes, the Vampire can sit safely in your lineup while continuously dealing damage and healing itself.

- Excellent for both PvE and PvP

A Tier Heroes
These heroes are excellent investments and can comfortably carry your team through most content.
Dragon
Dragon is one of the strongest offensive heroes available.
It has solid health, respectable damage, and most importantly, access to Bleed. Bleed is one of the rarest and strongest stats in Path of Kings because it continues damaging enemies long after you’ve attacked them.
Dragon also has enough health to survive longer fights, making it much more reliable than fragile damage dealers.

Demon
The Demon feels like a hybrid between a combo attacker and a Bleed specialist.
It doesn’t have the survivability of Dragon or Vampire, but its combination of Combo attacks and Bleed allows it to deal impressive sustained damage over longer battles.
The only thing holding it back from S Tier is the lack of self-healing.

Heaven
If your goal is to build the toughest frontline possible, Heaven is hard to ignore.
Its massive health pool and extremely high armor make it arguably the strongest pure tank currently available.
It won’t contribute much damage, but that’s not really its job. Heaven exists to stay alive while your damage dealers slowly eliminate the enemy team.

Orc
Orc remains one of the most dependable free tanks.
Although Path of Kings doesn’t use traditional tank mechanics where enemies always attack the frontline, having a hero with huge health and armor still makes a noticeable difference.
Orc absorbs punishment incredibly well and pairs nicely with Bleed-focused damage dealers.

- Excellent early and mid-game tank
Frost
Frost is another hero built almost entirely around durability.
With one of the largest health pools in the game and strong armor scaling, Frost can withstand incredible amounts of punishment.
If you already own Heaven, Frost becomes slightly less important, but it’s still an excellent defensive option.
Warrior
Don’t underestimate the starting Warrior.
It’s easy to overlook because everyone receives it early, but balanced stats make it surprisingly reliable. Good damage, respectable health, and decent armor allow Warrior to fit into almost any lineup while you’re progressing through the campaign.
Eventually stronger heroes replace it, but the Warrior remains useful for quite a while.

Lizard
Lizard focuses on doing one thing really well—landing consistent damage.
Its high accuracy means attacks rarely miss, making it an excellent damage dealer against evasive enemies.
While it doesn’t rely on Bleed or Combo mechanics, its straightforward offensive power makes it an easy addition to many teams.
B Tier Heroes
These heroes are perfectly usable but usually become replacement candidates once stronger options arrive.
Elf
Elf specializes in Combo attacks and Critical Hits.
Watching it chain multiple attacks together can be satisfying, and when critical hits trigger, the damage spikes quickly.
The problem is survivability.
Elf has relatively low health, making it vulnerable during longer battles. Once stronger Bleed heroes become available, Elf usually ends up leaving the main team.

Skelly
Skelly offers a nice balance between offense and survivability.
Unlike many damage-focused heroes, it has respectable health alongside its damage bonus, allowing it to survive longer than expected.
It’s a dependable choice if you’re still building your roster, but eventually stronger heroes outperform it.
Octobeard
Octobeard feels like an upgraded version of Elf.
It gains larger bonuses to Combo and Critical stats, making it capable of producing impressive burst damage.
However, it lacks the utility offered by Bleed heroes and doesn’t provide the durability of tanks.
Considering it’s a premium hero, many players may find better value elsewhere.
Ranger
Ranger specializes in Accuracy and Dodge.
On paper those sound useful, but in practice they simply don’t impact battles as much as Bleed, Lifesteal, raw damage, or tankiness.
It can certainly work, but most players will probably replace it sooner rather than later.
Team Building Tips
Instead of filling your lineup with three damage dealers, try balancing your team around different roles.
A solid setup usually looks something like this:
- One dedicated tank (Heaven, Orc, or Frost)
- One Bleed damage dealer (Vampire, Dragon, or Demon)
- One consistent DPS hero (Lizard or Warrior)
This combination gives you survivability while still maintaining enough damage to handle bosses and PvP opponents.
Path of Kings gives players plenty of hero options, but not all of them offer the same long-term value. Bleed-based heroes currently dominate the meta because damage over time scales incredibly well against tougher enemies, while durable tanks make difficult encounters much more manageable.
For most players, building around a sturdy frontline with heroes like Heaven or Orc and pairing them with Vampire or Dragon is one of the safest and most effective strategies. As more heroes are added and future balance updates arrive, the rankings may change, but for the current version of the game, these heroes offer the best return on your investment.
