One of the biggest progression choices in Dokkodo comes from the Spirit system. While weapons determine how you fight, Spirits determine the kind of fighter you become. A Katana user with Guardian feels completely different from a Katana user running Warrior, even if they’re using the exact same stance.
Because Spirit passives affect movement, defense, utility, team play, and combat mechanics, picking the right one is just as important as choosing your weapon.
After spending time looking through the trees, it’s clear that each Spirit targets a very different playstyle. Some are built for frontline combat, some focus on mobility, while others reward mastery of advanced mechanics.
Here’s a complete breakdown of every Spirit currently available.
Guardian
Guardian is the defensive powerhouse of Dokkodo.
If you’re the type of player who enjoys protecting teammates, holding your ground during difficult fights, and becoming incredibly difficult to break, Guardian is easily one of the strongest options available.
This Spirit focuses heavily on posture management, ally support, and defensive counterplay.
Fortress Posture
Increases maximum posture by 15%.
This might sound simple, but posture is one of the most important resources in Dokkodo combat. Having a larger posture pool allows you to stay in fights longer before becoming vulnerable.
Shoulder Bash
Replaces your normal shove while sprinting.
Instead of a standard shove, you’ll perform a shoulder charge that staggers and knocks back enemies.
This gives Guardian users a much more aggressive way to initiate combat.
Swift Rescue
Picking up downed allies becomes instant.
Normally there is a windup animation before reviving or carrying teammates. This passive completely removes that delay.
Burdened Resolve
While carrying an ally, you gain:
- 15% posture resistance
- Increased posture regeneration
This makes escorting injured teammates much safer.
Deflector’s Momentum
Successfully deflecting grants additional movement speed for two seconds.
This helps you maintain pressure after a defensive play.
Devastating Deflect
Your first deflect during Kokyu becomes significantly stronger.
Instead of merely stopping an attack, it staggers and knocks back the opponent.
Guardian’s Presence
Nearby clan members strengthen you.
For every clanmate within range, you gain posture resistance and posture regeneration.
The effect stacks multiple times.
Immovable Steel
While Kokyu is active, enemy deflect knockback no longer affects you.
Instead, the attacker receives the knockback.
This passive feels especially satisfying during group fights.
Kumiuchi
One of Guardian’s most unique abilities.
You grab and clinch an opponent, locking both fighters in place for several seconds.
During this period, you slowly drain their posture.
Smart opponents can escape, but inexperienced players often lose huge amounts of posture before realizing what’s happening.
Protector’s Brace
Picking up a downed ally grants temporary protection.
The next incoming hit deals significantly reduced damage.
Steadfast Guard
While Kokyu is active, your guard protects from every direction.
Normally positioning matters when blocking attacks. This passive removes that weakness.
Sustained Kokyu
Extends Kokyu duration from five seconds to eight seconds.
More uptime means more value from every Kokyu-related passive.
Unwavering Grip
Taking damage while carrying an ally no longer forces you to drop them.
Unyielding Guard
Blocking during Kokyu briefly stuns attackers.
This can completely shut down aggressive enemies.
Kokyu
Guardian’s signature skill.
For several seconds, your defensive capabilities improve significantly.
Deflection timing becomes easier, deflections become stronger, and numerous Guardian passives become active.
Revive
Allows you to revive allies from a distance.
In team fights, this can completely change the outcome of a battle.
Guardian Overview
Guardian is easily the best Spirit for players who enjoy:
- Team play
- Defensive combat
- Frontline tanking
- Posture battles
- Supporting allies
If you frequently play with friends or clan members, Guardian offers incredible value.
Coward
Despite the name, Coward isn’t weak.
In fact, it’s probably the most mobile Spirit currently available.
Coward focuses on survival, repositioning, speed, and avoiding direct confrontations.
Instead of standing your ground, you’ll constantly move, dodge, and create opportunities.
Cornered Rat
The more enemies around you, the stronger you become.
Additional opponents increase:
- Damage
- Posture damage
- Movement speed
Craven’s Reach
Successfully hitting someone with a thrown projectile grants bonus speed.
Flinch Step
Whenever nearby enemies begin an attack, you gain temporary movement speed.
This passive rewards awareness and quick reactions.
Second Wind
Stamina lasts longer.
Simple but extremely useful.
Wall Cling
Improves wall-running and climbing duration.
Movement bonuses also linger after leaving surfaces.
Broken Stride
When injured, your movement speed increases.
Many Spirits become weaker when damaged.
Coward actually becomes harder to catch.
Desperate Lunge
Dashes and rolls travel farther.
This dramatically improves mobility.
Safety in Numbers
Nearby clanmates increase your damage output.
Slippery Instinct
Successful dodges provide temporary speed boosts.
Tumble Surge
Recovering from a roll grants extra movement speed.
Rat’s Scurry
One of the strongest mobility passives.
Replaces standard dashes with instant bursts that have almost no commitment.
Shallow Commitment
Lunges and aerial attacks complete faster.
Adrenaline Rush
Provides a temporary movement speed and jump boost.
Perfect for escaping danger or chasing opponents.
Dust Throw
Throw dirt into an opponent’s face.
Enemies struck become briefly blinded.
Simple but surprisingly annoying to fight against.
Rock Throw
Throw a rock at enemies.
Deals minor damage while stunning targets briefly.
Coward Overview
Coward is perfect for players who:
- Love mobility
- Prefer hit-and-run tactics
- Enjoy outplaying opponents
- Value movement over defense
Personally, this feels like one of the most fun Spirits for solo players.
Warrior
Warrior is exactly what it sounds like.
Aggression.
Pressure.
Damage.
This Spirit rewards players who constantly push forward and force engagements.
Shattered Resolve
Enemies suffer longer stagger durations after posture breaks.
This creates larger punishment windows.
Sustained Kiai
Extends Kiai duration significantly.
Battle Cry
Charging during Kiai increases both speed and damage.
Crushing Step
Punishes enemies who miss attacks.
Proper timing can temporarily disable their mobility.
Crushing Weight
Your attacks deal chip damage through guards.
Even defensive players can’t completely ignore your pressure.
Dying Breath
As your health decreases, your damage increases.
The lower your health gets, the stronger you become.
Hollow Blade
Reduces feint cooldowns.
This creates more opportunities for mind games.
Kiai Charge
Attack windups grant movement speed while Kiai is active.
Kiai Intensity
Speeds up attacks, recoveries, and overall combat flow.
Kiai Strike
The first attack after activating Kiai gains hyperarmor.
Skull Crusher
Replaces shove with a brutal headbutt attack.
Deals damage and briefly stuns opponents.
Unyielding Fury
Additional enemies increase:
- Damage
- Posture damage
- Penetration
Kiai Burst
One of Warrior’s strongest abilities.
Nearby enemies are forced to guard, consuming their defensive options and making your next strike unavoidable.
Kiai
The centerpiece of Warrior.
Provides increased damage, posture damage, and penetration.
Many Warrior passives revolve around this skill.
Takedown
A powerful grapple that slams opponents to the ground.
Phantom Intent
One of the coolest abilities in the Spirit system.
Creates an afterimage that continues your attack while you become partially invisible.
This can completely confuse opponents during fights.
Warrior Overview
Warrior is ideal for players who:
- Love aggressive combat
- Constantly pressure opponents
- Enjoy dealing maximum damage
- Prefer offense over defense
If Guardian is the shield, Warrior is definitely the sword.
Prodigy
Prodigy is arguably the most technical Spirit in Dokkodo.
Unlike Warrior or Guardian, Prodigy doesn’t focus on raw stats.
Instead, it rewards knowledge, mechanics, and mastery of the combat system.
Studious Edge
Unlocks four additional weapon mastery slots.
Chamber Flow
Successful chambers temporarily improve attack speed and reduce recovery times.
Disciplined Edge
Unlocks four more mastery slots.
Combined with Studious Edge, this gives Prodigy unmatched customization.
Flowing Technique
Using different skills in sequence can reset cooldowns.
This creates powerful combo opportunities.
Mirrored Form
Fighting opponents using the same stance grants combat bonuses.
Predator’s Read
Successfully hitting enemies using your stance also grants temporary buffs.
Sharpened Instinct
Reduces cooldowns on weapon techniques.
Stance Mastery
Landing chambers or counter-skills temporarily increases damage.
Swift Reprisal
Successful dodges immediately open counterattack opportunities.
Way of Sight
One of the most unique passives in the entire game.
Certain enemies possess secret stances unavailable through dojos.
Defeating them can unlock those stances.
Way of Inheritance
Allows players to obtain rare skills and upgrades from defeated enemies.
This creates a completely separate progression path unavailable to most Spirits.
False Form
Lets you fake weapon skills during windup.
The feinted skill returns much faster than normal.
This adds an entirely new layer of mind games.
Mitate
Perhaps the strongest skill in the Prodigy tree.
Stores techniques used against you.
Later, you can activate the stored ability yourself.
Essentially, you temporarily steal enemy techniques.
