If you’ve just spawned into Apocrypha and feel completely lost, don’t worry. The game does a decent job introducing you to the basics, but there are still plenty of systems that aren’t explained very clearly. Between subclasses, NPCs, arena modes, injuries, spellcasting, and progression paths, it’s easy to miss something important during your first few hours.
After going through the tutorial and exploring the early areas, I noticed that most new players tend to ask the exact same questions. Where do I go after escaping the Bastille? Which NPCs actually matter? How does parrying work? What’s the best race? This guide answers all of that in a straightforward way while walking you through the game’s opening progression.
Apocrypha Beginner Guide Wiki – NPC Locations, Trello
The first thing you’ll encounter is the character creation screen.
You’ll be able to customize several aspects of your character, including:
- Kin (Race)
- Hair and appearance
- Sigil Shade
- Name
A lot of players immediately ask which race is the strongest. While some races definitely have stronger abilities and rarer variants than others, there isn’t a single race that automatically makes you overpowered.
Player skill matters far more than race selection. A skilled player can perform extremely well regardless of their chosen Kin, so don’t stress too much if you don’t roll a rare race.
For Sigil Shades, the rarest option is generally considered the Apocryphal shade, making it a desirable roll if you’re lucky enough to get it.
Once you’re happy with your character, select your slot and begin the timeline.
The Tutorial Walkthrough
The tutorial takes place in the Sunken Bastille and serves as your introduction to combat and progression.
Speak to Naru First
Your first objective is to find and talk to Naru.
Naru provides your initial quest and gives you a dagger. After accepting the quest, you’ll be tasked with eliminating a nearby guard.
Defeat the Guard
The guard isn’t particularly difficult.
After defeating him, you’ll have several options:
- Loot the body
- Revive the target
- Execute the target
Make sure you loot the guard because you’ll need items obtained during this section for progression.
After collecting everything, return to Naru.
Unlocking the Rogue Subclass
When you return the Bastille Exit Key to Naru, you’ll unlock the Rogue subclass.
This is one of the most useful early-game subclasses because it grants:
- Knife Skill
- Pickpocket
- Lockpicking
- Notoriety
- Quick Step
Quick Step is especially valuable since it increases movement speed and improves mobility during exploration.
For most new players, Rogue is an excellent early choice and makes progression much smoother.
Finding the Chamber Key
As you continue through the Bastille, you’ll come across a chest.
Open the chest to obtain the Chamber Key.
This key is required for unlocking doors deeper within the tutorial area and progressing toward your escape.
Don’t rush past containers during the tutorial because missing this key can leave you wondering why certain doors won’t open.
Obtaining the Bastille Exit Key
Further ahead, you’ll eventually find another important key.
The Bastille Exit Key is located behind a dangerous section that contains a miniboss.
The good news is that you don’t necessarily have to fight perfectly.
Many players simply avoid the initial attack and focus on reaching the key first. However, eventually you’ll need to deal with the miniboss to continue.
Be careful here because the enemy can remove a huge chunk of your health if you’re careless.
Important NPC Locations
Once you escape the Bastille, several NPCs become available. These characters unlock some of the most important systems in the game.
Faelanar
Faelanar teaches advanced magic mechanics.
He can help players learn:
- Hand Casting
- Advanced Spellcasting
To learn from Faelanar, you’ll generally need:
- A spellbook
- Lunary currency
- Magic unlocked in your skill tree
One interesting feature is that repeated hand casting can eventually allow players to cast naturally without constantly relying on the spellbook.
If you’re planning a mage build, Faelanar becomes extremely important.
Arena NPC
The Arena NPC allows players to participate in arena battles.
A common mistake new players make is trying to fight this NPC directly with close-range attacks.
Instead, ranged attacks or spells are often more effective for breaking defenses and creating openings.
Arena content is one of the primary ways to test your build against stronger opponents.
Nawa
Nawa functions as the Arena Reward Vendor.
After earning victories in the arena, you’ll visit Nawa to claim and spend your rewards.
If you’re farming arena content regularly, you’ll be seeing this NPC quite often.
Maro
Maro is connected to Skyfall Battle Royale.
Skyfall is Apocrypha’s battle royale mode and offers players another progression path through emblems and special rewards.
If you’re interested in PvP-focused gameplay, Maro is one of the first NPCs you should locate after escaping the tutorial.
What To Do After Escaping the Sunken Bastille
This is probably the most common question new players ask.
After escaping, you have several options.
Challenge Ronan
Find Ronan, the red-haired NPC located in the Asylum Isles.
Defeating him unlocks access to:
- 1v1 battles
- 2v2 battles
- Additional competitive content
This should be one of your first goals if you enjoy PvP.
Explore Skyfall
You can also begin participating in Skyfall Battle Royale.
This mode provides opportunities to earn emblems and unlock progression systems tied to competitive gameplay.
Continue Meeting NPCs
Many important vendors, trainers, and service NPCs are scattered throughout the islands.
Taking time to explore is genuinely rewarding because you’ll constantly discover new mechanics and progression systems.
How Parrying Actually Works
One thing that confuses almost everyone is the parry system.
Apocrypha does not use the typical parry mechanics found in many Roblox combat games.
You cannot parry every attack.
Instead, parries are primarily intended for critical attacks.
Normal attacks generally can’t be parried the same way players expect.
Better Combat Strategy
Rather than fishing for parries constantly, try this approach:
- Block an enemy attack.
- Immediately use M1.
- Trigger a quick counterattack.
This creates a fast interruption that can stop enemy pressure and help you regain momentum.
Another strong tactic is dodging behind opponents and starting your own combo sequence from their blind side.
Once you understand this rhythm, combat starts feeling much smoother.
How To Restore a Lost Arm
Losing a limb can be frustrating when you’re new.
Fortunately, there’s a solution.
Find Alubian and pay 1,000 Donory.
You’ll find this NPC by heading through the spawn area in the LCM Isles and moving downward until you locate the character wearing a rich-looking hat with purple eyes.
Alubian can restore your missing arm and get you back into fighting condition.
How To Heal Broken Legs and Injuries
For physical injuries such as:
- Broken legs
- Damaged limbs
- Other serious injuries
Visit Dr. Sergie.
Dr. Sergie acts as the game’s medical specialist and can help restore your character when injuries begin affecting gameplay.
If you’ve been wondering why your character feels weaker or slower after a difficult fight, checking in with Dr. Sergie should be one of your first priorities.
Leopold and Storage Services
Leopold serves an important utility role.
Players often visit him for:
- Storage management
- General item organization
- Additional guidance regarding Lunary-related systems
It’s one of those NPCs that doesn’t seem important initially but becomes extremely useful once your inventory starts filling up.
Can You Change Controls?
Yes.
Apocrypha allows players to customize keybinds through the settings menu.
If a control layout feels uncomfortable, simply open settings and adjust your bindings.
This is especially helpful for players coming from other combat-heavy Roblox games who already have preferred key layouts.
Is Overlord Armor Restricted?
Yes.
Many players become confused when they suddenly can’t equip their Overlord Armor.
The reason is simple.
You must be Rank 500 or higher to equip it.
The armor was previously known as Dragon Armor, which is why some veteran players still refer to it by that name.
Apocrypha throws a lot of information at new players very quickly, and it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed during your first few hours. The good news is that once you escape the Sunken Bastille and start meeting the major NPCs, the game’s progression becomes much easier to understand.
Focus on unlocking your subclass, learning the combat flow, and familiarizing yourself with NPC services like Faelanar, Alubian, Leopold, and Dr. Sergie. Those characters form the backbone of your early progression and will save you plenty of frustration later on.
Take your time exploring, don’t worry too much about having the perfect race, and enjoy discovering the world at your own pace. That’s where Apocrypha is at its best.
