One of the first objectives you’ll receive in Fatekeeper is finding the Portal Room. While this task sounds simple, the game provides very little direction, causing many new players to spend a lot of time exploring Haven without actually progressing the main objective.
The good news is that reaching the Portal Room is much easier than it initially appears. If you know the correct path, you can find it within a minute of arriving in Haven.
Fatekeeper Portal Room Guide
When you first start the game, there isn’t much you need to worry about along the opening path. The route is mostly straightforward and designed to guide you toward Haven.
You can collect a few resources on the way, particularly mushrooms and other gathering materials. While these are useful for crafting later, they are not required for completing the objective.
For your first playthrough, simply continue moving forward until you reach Haven.
Arriving in Haven
Haven serves as the main hub area early in the game. Naturally, many players arrive and immediately begin exploring every corner of the settlement looking for hidden quests, loot, or important NPCs.
From my experience, this is where a lot of time gets wasted.
Although Haven becomes important later, there is very little you need to interact with when your current goal is finding the Portal Room. Instead of searching every building and pathway, focus entirely on following the objective route.
Entering the Main Building
After reaching Haven, head toward the large building directly ahead.
Go through the first doorway you encounter and enter the structure.
Inside, you’ll notice several NPCs and points of interest, but you can safely ignore them for now if your only goal is progressing the main quest.
Continue moving deeper into the building until you reach the staircase.
Following the Staircases
The Portal Room is located beneath the main level of the building.
Once you find the stairs, begin descending.
After reaching the lower level, continue following the stairway that branches to the right. Keep moving downward and always take the path that leads deeper into the structure.
The route is surprisingly straightforward once you know where to go. The biggest challenge is simply realizing that the objective is hidden below the main floor rather than somewhere in the settlement itself.
Reaching the Portal Altar
Eventually, you’ll arrive at a small altar-like structure at the end of the path.
This altar is the location connected to the Portal Room objective.
Interact with the altar when prompted. Doing so activates and opens the portal, allowing you to continue the game’s progression.
Once the portal is activated, the objective is completed and you can move on to the next stage of your adventure.
Useful Early Game Advice
Ignore Most Exploration Initially
Haven is tempting to explore because it appears to be packed with secrets and side activities. However, if your goal is simply completing the first objective, you can save most exploration for later and head directly to the Portal Room.
Gather Resources Along the Way
While traveling to Haven, pick up mushrooms and other crafting materials whenever they are nearby. These resources become useful once you start interacting with crafting systems such as alchemy.
Remember the Route
You’ll likely return to this lower section of Haven multiple times throughout your playthrough. Learning the path early makes future visits much quicker.
Check Nearby Facilities Later
After activating the portal, consider returning to explore Haven more thoroughly. Several useful facilities, crafting stations, and NPCs become much more relevant once you’ve progressed beyond the opening objective.
Portal Room Route
For players who simply want the fastest route:
- Continue through the opening area until you reach Haven.
- Enter the main building through the first doorway.
- Locate the staircase inside.
- Go downstairs and continue following the path downward.
- Take the stairs leading to the right.
- Continue descending until you reach the altar.
- Interact with the altar to open the portal.
That’s all there is to it. The Portal Room is actually very close to Haven’s entrance, but because the game doesn’t clearly direct players underground, it’s easy to overlook during your first few minutes in Fatekeeper. Once you know the route, this objective can be completed almost immediately after arriving at the hub area.
