Merge Tactics just received what is honestly the biggest update in the game’s history so far. This is not one of those smaller balance patches where a few numbers get adjusted and everybody moves on after a day. This update completely changes how the game is played with new rulers, new troops, ruler quests, massive trait reworks, new equipment systems, fresh modifiers, and even spectator mode.
A lot of long-time players are already saying the game feels completely different now, and honestly, they are not exaggerating. Nearly every match now has more depth and more decision-making than before.
If you have not logged in since the update dropped, here is a full breakdown of everything important.
New Ruler: Tomb Queen
The biggest new addition is the brand-new ruler called the Tomb Queen.
Her ability revolves around spawning a tombstone onto the battlefield. Once the tombstone gets destroyed, the Tomb Queen rises from it and joins the fight herself.
The mechanic feels very similar to a hero version of Tombstone from Clash Royale. Instead of immediately fighting at the start of the round, she enters later after the building breaks.
This creates some interesting positioning decisions because players now need to decide where to place the tombstone.
A lot of players are already experimenting with putting it:
- Near the backline for protection
- Slightly forward so it activates earlier
- In side lanes to avoid focus fire
The ruler actually feels surprisingly strong because it essentially gives you an additional scaling frontline unit later into the fight.
Echo Stage Replaces King on Trophy Road
Another noticeable change is that the Echo Stage ruler now appears on the Trophy Road instead of King.
This is honestly a pretty major progression shift because it gives players earlier access to Echo Stage without needing the previous unlock method.
The community reaction is probably going to be mixed, especially from players who previously grinded harder for the unlock, but newer players will definitely benefit from the change.
Ruler Quests
The biggest gameplay system added in this update is definitely Ruler Quests.
Every ruler now has three unique quests that can be completed during matches. Completing these quests rewards special orbs with increasingly powerful rewards.
This adds an entirely new objective system inside each game instead of simply focusing only on winning rounds.
Example Ruler Quests
Each ruler has completely different objectives.
Tomb Queen Quests
- Summon 10 troops
- Summon 25 troops
- Summon 80 troops
The final quest is honestly pretty crazy and likely difficult unless you intentionally build around it.
King Quests
- Lose 2 rounds
- Lose 3 rounds
- Lose 4 rounds
This creates very risky gameplay because losing too many rounds can obviously eliminate you before completing the final quest.
Spirit Empress Quest
One quest involves merging 50 troops in a single game, which sounds extremely difficult unless the match goes long.
Goblin Queen Quest
One objective requires generating 25 goblins during a match.
The quests already feel very different depending on which ruler you choose, and this is probably going to massively affect future metas.
Quest Orb Rewards
Completing ruler quests rewards special quest orbs.
Quest 1 Orb
Can contain:
- One-star troops
- Five elixir
- Equipment pieces
Quest 2 Orb
Can contain:
- Two-star troops
- Ten elixir
- Better equipment
Quest 3 Orb
Can contain:
- Three-star troops
- Twenty elixir
- High-tier equipment
The third orb rewards are honestly massive. Getting a free three-star troop or 20 elixir can completely swing a game.
Because of this, ruler quest difficulty will probably become one of the most important balance discussions moving forward.
New Troops Added
The update also introduces several new troops along with returning units.
Boss Bandit
Trait: Forest
Boss Bandit dashes backward three tiles every few attacks. It behaves similarly to Bandit from Clash Royale, creating unpredictable movement during fights.
This troop already looks annoying to deal with because repositioning constantly changes targeting.
Firecracker
Trait: Forest
Firecracker attacks enemies in a cone behind the main target while knocking herself backward every few attacks.
She functions very similarly to the Clash Royale version and seems especially strong against grouped formations.
Goblin Cage
Trait: Goblin
When destroyed, the cage releases a Goblin Brawler.
Simple but effective frontline utility.
Magic Archer
Trait: Forest
Magic Archer fires piercing shots every few attacks, damaging enemies positioned behind targets.
This unit could become very strong against stacked backline formations.
Returning Troops
Several older troops are also returning:
- Bomber
- Mega Knight
- Mini Pekka
Mega Knight and Mini Pekka are now classified under the new Boss rarity category.
Boss Troops and Orb-Exclusive Units
One of the biggest progression changes is that certain troops can now only be obtained through quest orbs.
These include:
- Giant
- Royal Giant
- Goblin Cage
- Skeleton Dragons
- Baby Dragon
- Pekka
- Mini Pekka
- Mega Knight
- Monk
This means not every troop is obtainable directly through the shop anymore.
Instead of flooding the normal troop pool, some of the strongest units are now tied to quests and orb rewards.
Massive Trait Rework
Traits have been completely redesigned.
Previously, troops could have multiple traits naturally. Now, every troop only has one base trait.
There are currently only six traits:
- Noble
- Clan
- Goblin
- Boss
- Undead
- Forest
Forest Trait
Forest grants your lowest HP troop:
- Invisibility
- Bonus hit speed
- Temporary survivability boosts
Boss Trait
Boss units gain:
- Bonus HP
- Bonus damage
But they are only obtainable through orbs.
This entire trait system massively changes team-building because synergies are now simpler but more specialized.
A lot of players are divided on this change already. Some like the cleaner design, while others think it removes depth from older builds.
Equipment Can Add Traits
The trait rework becomes more interesting once you understand the new equipment system.
Some equipment pieces can now grant additional traits.
For example:
Clan Horn
Gives the equipped troop the Clan trait.
This means you can technically recreate multi-trait units again through equipment instead of natural troop design.
There are equipment items for nearly every trait except Boss.
This system honestly adds a lot more creativity than it first appears because players can experiment with hybrid synergies again.
New Modifiers
The update also adds several new modifiers, and surprisingly, they look much better than previous seasons.
Dummy Modifier
You receive a dummy unit, and if the dummy dies, you lose the round.
This creates completely different positioning priorities because protecting the dummy becomes more important than pure damage sometimes.
Three Elixir Modifier
Every troop costs exactly three elixir.
This modifier sounds simple, but it completely changes economy management and reroll strategies.
The modifiers this season honestly feel far more creative than older versions.
Spectator Mode Added
Finally, players can now spectate matches after being eliminated.
Once knocked out, you can press the Spectate button and watch remaining players finish the game.
This is honestly a fantastic quality-of-life change because previously players just instantly left after dying.
Now you can:
- Watch top players
- Study builds
- Learn positioning
- Analyze late-game boards
For competitive players especially, this feature is huge.
