Subnautica 2 Crafting Materials Guide – Where to find them

Resources are the foundation of everything you do in Subnautica 2. Whether you are building your first tiny underwater base, crafting survival tools, upgrading vehicles, or preparing for deep-sea exploration, nearly every major step in the game depends on finding the right materials.

At first, resource gathering can feel a little confusing because the ocean is huge and the game does not always clearly explain where certain materials spawn. Many new players spend hours wandering randomly across the seabed hoping to stumble into what they need.

The good news is that resources in Subnautica 2 are usually grouped together by biome and environment type. Once you learn where specific materials tend to appear, gathering them becomes dramatically easier.

If you find one piece of a resource, there is a very good chance more of the same material is nearby.

This guide breaks down the most important crafting materials in Subnautica 2, where to find them, and what you should know before farming them.

Subnautica 2 Crafting Materials Guide

Most mineral-based crafting materials appear in three different sizes throughout the world.

Small Resource Nodes

These can simply be picked up by hand and usually reward one piece of the material.

They are the most common type players encounter early in the game.

Medium Resource Nodes

Medium nodes must be broken apart using a tool, even something simple like your Scanner.

Breaking them usually rewards two pieces of the material.

Large Resource Nodes

Large nodes require advanced tools like the Sonic Resonator or Feedback Resonator to destroy.

These large deposits can reward multiple materials at once and become extremely important later in the game once your crafting demands increase.

Acidic Raion Pouch

The Acidic Raion Pouch is one of the first unusual biological materials many players encounter.

You can harvest it from the purple-and-green Raion plants scattered throughout the world. To collect it properly, you need the Survival Multitool.

These plants are easy to recognize thanks to their bright colors and glowing appearance.

Be careful when harvesting from them, though, because interacting with the plant can release toxic gas nearby. It is usually best to quickly move backward after collecting materials.

Interestingly, these same plants also contain Medical Gel Sacs, making them doubly useful early on.

Atacamite

Atacamite is mostly found near alien structures far to the east of the map.

Unlike some resources hidden inside caves, Atacamite is usually found directly on the seabed surrounding these mysterious alien zones.

Once you begin reaching alien areas consistently, you will likely start encountering it more frequently during normal exploration.

Axum Bacterial Culture

This material can be found inside yellow pools near the Metal Farm located in the far northeastern region of the map.

This is not really an early-game resource, so newer players probably will not encounter it immediately. Still, once you start exploring farther from the Lifepod, it becomes an important material to keep an eye out for.

Celestine

Celestine is commonly found around several advanced alien locations, including:

  • Alien Power Plant
  • Alien Observatory
  • Metal Farm

These areas are generally more dangerous and farther from beginner zones, so it helps to prepare properly before making dedicated farming trips.

Conduit Crystal

Conduit Crystal is one of the rarer resources in the game.

It can only be found near the Alien Power Plant in the eastern region of the map.

Since the resource is tied to a specific location, it is worth bringing extra storage space when farming it to reduce repeated trips later.

Copper

Copper is one of the most important early-game crafting materials.

You will need it constantly for:

  • Batteries
  • Copper Wire
  • Electronics
  • Base equipment

Copper usually appears clustered along cave walls, cliff faces, and rocky overhangs.

If you find one Copper deposit inside a cave, there are often several more nearby.

Many new players struggle with Copper early because they search open seafloor areas instead of checking cave systems carefully.

Coral Shavings

Coral Shavings are harvested directly from coral using the Survival Multitool.

Not every coral type can be harvested, so experimentation helps.

Whenever you discover unfamiliar coral formations, it is usually worth testing your tool on them to see what materials they provide.

Enamel

Enamel is another resource tied to the eastern alien regions of the map.

It is mainly found near the Alien Power Plant area.

Because these advanced regions often contain aggressive creatures and environmental hazards, make sure you bring enough oxygen and supplies before farming there.

Fibrous Pulp

Fibrous Pulp comes from slashing certain underwater plants with the Survival Multitool.

This material is commonly used in crafting recipes connected to survival and equipment progression.

Not all plants drop Fibrous Pulp, though, so pay attention to which plant types are harvestable.

Gold

Gold becomes increasingly important later in the game for advanced electronics and equipment.

You can usually find it in extremely hot regions, often near Sulfur deposits.

These areas are dangerous without the Heat Resistance Adaptation because water temperatures can rise quickly.

If the game starts warning you about heat levels, keep a close eye on your surroundings and avoid lingering too long.

Lead

Lead is generally found in deeper underwater regions, especially inside bare canyon areas.

As you begin exploring deeper biomes, you will naturally start encountering Lead more often.

Because it spawns deeper than many beginner materials, upgraded oxygen tanks or vehicles make farming much easier.

Lithium

Lithium is found deep inside cave systems beneath large coral arches roughly 500 meters east of the Lifepod.

This resource becomes extremely important for advanced base building and higher-tier equipment.

The caves where Lithium appears can be confusing to navigate, so carrying Beacons during exploration is highly recommended.

Lucifer Rotsac

Lucifer Rotsac is one of the more visually distinctive plant-based resources in the game.

Look for plants with glowing orange pentagonal shapes.

The good news is that Lucifer Rotsac regrows over time, making it a renewable resource you can revisit later.

Medical Gel Sac

Medical Gel Sacs are found on the same Raion plants that contain Acidic Raion Pouches.

These sacs are valuable for healing-related crafting and survival items.

Just remember that harvesting from Raion plants may release toxic gas, so avoid lingering nearby unnecessarily.

Metal Salvage

Metal Salvage is commonly found near wreckage from the CICADA starship.

Once collected, it can be processed inside a Fabricator and converted into Titanium.

This makes it one of the best ways to stockpile large amounts of Titanium quickly.

Necrolei Cyst

Necrolei Cyst can be found in the biome with blue and purple coral plants roughly 350 meters north of the Lifepod.

The area is visually very distinct, so once you discover it, remembering the location becomes much easier.

Quartz

Quartz is one of the most important beginner resources in the game.

It is commonly found around:

  • Coral Domes
  • Sandy seafloor areas
  • Coral interiors

Quartz is heavily used for Glass production and early equipment crafting, so gathering extra whenever possible is always a smart idea.

Salt

Salt deposits are found around 500 meters southeast of the Lifepod.

Additional deposits also appear in warmer eastern regions and alien biomes later on.

Salt becomes increasingly useful for water purification and food preservation systems.

Silver

Silver is usually found clustered together inside deeper cave systems.

If you discover one Silver deposit, there are often many more nearby on surrounding walls.

Because Silver is required for Wiring Kits and many advanced recipes, locating reliable cave farming spots early is extremely valuable.

Sulfur

Sulfur is commonly found in the same extremely hot regions as Gold.

Again, these zones are dangerous without proper heat resistance upgrades.

Once you are equipped for high-temperature exploration, farming both Sulfur and Gold together becomes much more efficient.

Titanium

Titanium is everywhere.

Seriously.

It is one of the most common materials in the game and appears throughout nearly every biome.

Even though it is common, never underestimate how quickly Titanium disappears once you start serious base building.

Most experienced players collect Titanium constantly during exploration regardless of whether they immediately need it.

Resource gathering in Subnautica 2 can feel overwhelming at first, especially because the game throws so many crafting systems and survival mechanics at you early on. But once you begin understanding how materials are grouped by biome and environment, exploration becomes much more rewarding and far less frustrating.

Instead of wandering aimlessly, you start recognizing patterns. Coral regions become Quartz farms, caves become Copper and Silver hotspots, and dangerous hot zones become rich sources of advanced materials.

And honestly, that feeling of slowly learning the world and mastering its resources is a huge part of what makes Subnautica 2 so addictive.
