Silver quickly becomes one of the most important resources in Subnautica 2 once you move beyond the very early survival phase. At first you might think Titanium and Copper are the materials you need most, but before long you will hit a wall where multiple important upgrades suddenly require Silver.
The problem is that Silver can be surprisingly annoying to find when you first start exploring.
Not only are the deposits less common near the Lifepod, but Silver also looks very similar to Titanium at a glance. Many players spend ages picking through random metallic deposits on the ocean floor only to realize they are gathering the wrong material over and over again.
Unfortunately, the game also expects you to find Silver before you can build tools like the Scanner Station that would actually make resource gathering easier. That means your first few Silver runs usually require manual exploration.
Thankfully, there are several reliable early-game locations where you can gather Silver without wandering aimlessly around the map.
Subnautica 2 Silver Locations Guide
Silver is tied to a huge number of important crafting recipes early in the game.
Some of the most important items requiring Silver include:
- Standard Air Tank
- Wakemaker
- Wiring Kit
- Germanium
- Hydroelectric Turbine
- Scanner Station
The Wiring Kit is especially important because it becomes part of many additional blueprints later on. Even when a recipe does not directly require Silver, there is a good chance it still needs a Wiring Kit somewhere in the crafting chain.
Because of that, Silver is one of those resources you never really stop needing.
Best Early Silver Location Near Camp One
The easiest and most reliable early-game Silver farming location is near Camp One.
You can find Camp One roughly 240 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod. Reaching the area is fairly safe overall, though you should stay alert for hostile creatures like the Marrowbreach swimming nearby.
One mistake many players make is searching around the open area outside Camp One. Most of the metal deposits there are Titanium, which is useful, but not what you are looking for.
Instead, focus on finding the cave entrance near the northern side of the camp.
Look for the northernmost building, the one containing the “Painted Tree” mural inside. From there, head slightly northeast and descend the nearby cliffs. Just below this area you should spot the cave entrance.
The cave is easy to recognize thanks to the strange plants growing around it. These plants have translucent teal-colored fronds with glowing purple spherical centers.
Once inside, you will find numerous smaller Silver deposits scattered throughout the cave.
The individual deposits may not be huge, but there are enough of them packed together that this becomes one of the best beginner farming spots in the game.
Colonist Bunker (Salvage) Cave
Another excellent Silver farming location is the cave system connected to the Colonist Bunker (Salvage).
This area is a bit farther away and slightly more dangerous to explore, but the rewards are usually worth the effort.
To reach it, travel toward the Angel Comb area located around 150 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod. Near this region you can find a cave system extending toward the west-southwest.
This same cave network eventually leads to the Colonist Bunker (Salvage), making it a useful trip for players who want both resources and exploration rewards at the same time.
The caves here contain a healthy amount of Silver deposits, especially deeper inside the system.
Because cave exploration naturally carries more risk due to oxygen management and navigation, it helps to bring:
- A Scanner
- Extra oxygen capacity
- Beacons if possible
- A Flashlight
It is very easy to lose track of direction in underwater cave systems, especially during early playthroughs.
Geothermal Vent Area Silver Deposits
Later in the early game, you can also gather Silver near the geothermal vent biome east of the Lifepod.
Travel around 200 meters east until the water temperature starts increasing. You do not necessarily need to enter the dangerous core of the geothermal region itself, but the outskirts contain several large Silver deposits.
This area is much riskier than the Camp One cave, especially if you do not yet have the Heat Resistance Adaptation upgrade.
The game gives warnings as the surrounding water becomes hotter, so pay attention to temperature changes while exploring. If the heat starts climbing too high, back away immediately.
Most of the Silver here appears as larger mineral formations rather than the smaller scattered deposits found in beginner caves.
Because of that, you will usually need the Sonic Resonator to harvest these larger nodes properly.
If you already have access to the Resonator, this area can become one of the best long-term Silver farming spots early in the game.
Tips for Farming Silver Efficiently
Learn the Appearance Difference
Silver and Titanium can look frustratingly similar at first.
Silver deposits usually appear slightly shinier and cleaner compared to the rougher appearance of Titanium. Once you spend time farming both, the visual differences become easier to recognize quickly.
Bring Storage Space
Silver is often found alongside other useful resources. If your inventory is nearly full before you start farming, you will probably end up leaving valuable materials behind.
Try to empty your inventory before long gathering trips.
Use Cave Oxygen Sources Carefully
Many caves contain Oxygen Tunics or air pockets that help extend exploration time. However, do not rely on them blindly.
Always keep enough oxygen in reserve to safely retreat if you become lost.
Upgrade Your Oxygen Tank Early
Silver farming becomes dramatically easier once you craft better oxygen tanks. Longer underwater exploration means less panic and more efficient gathering runs.
Silver is one of the first major progression resources in Subnautica 2 that forces players to move beyond the immediate safety of the Lifepod area.
