Thomas & Friends Wonders of Sodor Guide Wiki & Walkthrough

If you’ve been exploring the Island of Sodor and wondering why you keep missing a few collectibles, you’re definitely not alone. The game does a great job hiding things just enough to make you feel like you’re this close to 100%, but still slightly confused about what you missed.

So instead of throwing a dry checklist at you, I’m going to walk you through this like I would explain it to a friend—what each collectible actually is, where you’ll usually find it, and how to make your life easier while hunting them all down.

Thomas & Friends Wonders of Sodor Guide Wiki & Walkthrough

There are four types of collectibles in the game, and you need 20 of each:

  • Paintings
  • Mr Conductor’s Hats
  • Guard Whistles
  • Thomas Books

Let’s go through them one by one.

Paintings

Paintings are honestly the most relaxing part of this hunt. If you’re the kind of player who likes exploring stations slowly, you’ll probably collect most of these without even trying.

They’re always inside stations, and they’re big enough that once you notice one, you’ll never miss another again. Think of them as framed pictures hanging on walls or pillars—usually in very visible spots like:

  • Platform walls
  • Under station canopies
  • Near windows, signs, or pillars

For example, at Knapford you’ll see one right on a pillar near the exit, and at Tidmouth it’s tucked into a small wall section on Platform 2. Vicarstown has multiple paintings, mostly on the central pillars, so don’t just grab one and leave.

The best part? Every painting you collect gets displayed in the gallery at Knapford Station, so you can actually see your progress building up.

Real tip:
Whenever you enter a station, don’t rush. Just do one slow scan of the walls—you’ll spot them easily.

Mr Conductor’s Hats – The “Check Everything Around You” Collectible

Now this is where the game starts getting a bit sneaky.

Mr Conductor’s Hats are scattered outside stations, usually placed around landmarks or along tracks. They’re bright and colorful, so they stand out—but the placement is what makes them tricky.

You’ll often find them:

  • Sitting on barrels or crates
  • On fences or near signal boxes
  • Around bridges, yards, and turntables

One might be under a fuse box near a bridge, another could be sitting casually on luggage at a station, and some are placed in areas you wouldn’t normally walk through unless you’re actively exploring.

A good example is near Crovan’s Gate, where one hat is literally sitting on the turntable buffer. Another is hidden under stairs near a signal box by Knapford Harbour.

Real tip:
If something looks like a “point of interest” (bridge, ramp, yard, or random structure), check it. The game loves hiding hats there.

Guard Whistles

These are, without a doubt, the most annoying collectibles—but not in a bad way. They’re just tiny.

Unlike hats, whistles are found inside stations, but they blend into the environment so well that you can walk past them five times and still not see them.

They’re usually placed:

  • On benches
  • On luggage piles
  • On luggage carts

So imagine a normal station scene with bags and props everywhere—your job is to notice the one small object sitting on top.

For example:

  • At Knapford, you’ll find whistles on luggage near the gallery
  • At Cronk, it’s under a “Left Luggage” sign
  • At Maron, it’s on luggage near the footbridge

The only helpful thing is the sound—you’ll hear a whistle when you pick one up, so at least you know you didn’t imagine it.

Real tip:
Slow down and look closely at benches and luggage. If you’re rushing, you will miss these.

Thomas Books

This is easily the most enjoyable category because it feels like a proper treasure hunt.

Each book is based on the original Railway Series, and they’re placed in locations that actually make sense—near landmarks, scenic spots, or meaningful areas around Sodor.

You’ll find books:

  • Near tunnels, bridges, and windmills
  • Around yards and sidings
  • Next to buildings, crates, or props

For example:

  • Near Knapford’s signal box, there’s a book lying by the wall
  • At Crosby, one is sitting on a barrel at a farm
  • Near Henry’s Tunnel, it’s placed right at the entrance
  • At Maithwaite, one is leaning against the windmill

Some are super obvious once you’re nearby, but getting there is the real challenge.

Real tip:
If a place looks “important” or iconic, there’s a high chance a book is hidden there.

How to Actually Finish This Without Losing Your Mind

Here’s the easiest way to approach everything without backtracking forever:

Start with stations.
Collect all Paintings and Whistles first since they’re always there.

Then explore nearby areas.
Once you’re done at a station, check the surrounding tracks, bridges, and landmarks for Hats and Books.

Move area by area.
Don’t randomly roam the whole map—clear one location completely before moving on.

Achievements You’ll Unlock

As you complete each category, you’ll unlock:

  • Picture Perfect → All Paintings
  • Shining Time → All Mr Conductor’s Hats
  • Whistle While You Work → All Guard Whistles
  • The Classic Collection → All Thomas Books

That’s pretty much everything you need. Once you get into the rhythm—scan station, explore nearby, move on—it becomes way more enjoyable instead of frustrating.
