In Operations mode, your personal skill matters more than anything else. A good player with average perks will still perform well. That said, a properly built setup gives you breathing room when things go wrong, and in higher difficulties that safety cushion can be the difference between success and a wipe.
This guide is all about that — putting together builds where perks actually complement each other instead of just being random picks.
Tactical Class
The Tactical is exactly what the name suggests: balanced. It can fight effectively at any range, handle hordes or elite enemies, and its Auspex Scan is one of the strongest support abilities in the game. When used at the right moment, it can turn a dangerous situation into an easy cleanup.
Weapon & Column Synergy
Your primary weapon determines what you should take in Columns 1 and 3, and sometimes Column 2.
- Auto Bolt Rifle → Kraken Penetrator Rounds + Emperor’s Vengeance
- Bolt Rifle (no launcher), Combi-Melta, Bolt Carbine → Kraken Penetrator Rounds + Steady Aim
- Bolt Rifle w/ Launcher, Deathwatch, Stalker → Balanced Distribution + Emperor’s Vengeance
- Heavy Bolt Rifle, Marksman Carbine → Balanced Distribution + Steady Aim
- Plasma Incinerator → Plasma Boost + Emperor’s Vengeance
- Melta Rifle, Pyreblaster → Balanced Distribution + Emperor’s Judgement
The Embodiment Build
This is the pure “balanced Tactical” setup. It doesn’t push you into any extreme playstyle. You stay useful at all ranges and against any enemy type.
Grenades are meant to be used frequently here — especially with Auspex. Don’t hoard them.
The only caution is with Concentrated Fire. Mobile enemies can simply leave the Auspex zone.
HVT Killer
This build is all about saving Auspex for Extremis and Terminus enemies.
On higher difficulties where elite enemies spawn often, this becomes extremely valuable. Pair Auspex with a Krak grenade or Melta bomb for massive burst damage.
One thing to remember: Biovores protect their heads while in artillery mode.
Close and Personal
This setup focuses on fighting up close.
Pick close-range primaries like:
- Auto Bolt Rifle
- Bolt Carbine
- Melta Rifle
- Pyreblaster
Use them to thin swarms and soften strong enemies before finishing in melee. Minoris enemies usually don’t even need the Auspex bonus.
Tactical Prestige Picks
Acuity is easily the best first choice. It massively increases damage on compatible weapons.
Fortitude and Resilience are always solid for survivability.
Between Skilled Supplier and Exigency Charge, the latter usually wins because Emperor’s Vengeance already helps ammo issues.
Assault Class
The Assault is fast, aggressive, and fragile — a glass cannon. It lacks a primary weapon, so ranged combat is limited. The Jump Pack defines the class, both for mobility and for initiating combat.
Gun-Kata Build
This build focuses on Gun Strikes and Jump Pack dodges.
The trick is learning to dodge into enemies for perfect dodges. Once mastered, you can deal heavy single-target damage consistently.
Best secondaries:
- Heavy Bolt Pistol (single target)
- Plasma Pistol (AoE)
Use a fencing melee weapon for parry-based Gun Strikes.
“Mario” Build
This one is all about constant Jump Pack usage.
Ground pounds count as charged attacks, which activates several perks and makes you resistant to stagger.
Your goal is simple:
Jump → slam into clusters → regain ability charge → repeat.
Weapon choice matters less since modifiers equalize damage.
Momentum Build
This is the straightforward playstyle.
Use Jump Pack to open fights, then continue with normal melee and shooting. Perks here help maintain momentum and recover if you lose it.
Assault Prestige Picks
Adrenaline Boost is the top pick, especially after its buff.
Hammer of Wrath comes next.
The remaining perks are preference-based.
Vanguard Class
The Vanguard feels like a Tactical mixed with Assault mobility. It’s fast, aggressive, and versatile thanks to its Grapnel Launcher and access to primary weapons.
FINISH HIM Build
This build revolves around using Grapnel Launcher for finishers.
Always keep one charge ready so you can instantly execute enemies once they enter finisher state.
This creates a loop:
Finish → refill grapnel → finish next target.
Just Cause Player Build
Here the Grapnel Launcher becomes your main offensive tool.
Maximize diving kick damage and use it constantly for high burst and ability recharge.
Hunter Build
This build is about focusing down one priority target at a time.
You isolate dangerous enemies and eliminate them quickly using Grapnel mobility and defensive perks.
Vanguard Prestige Picks
Battlefield Awareness is extremely strong early.
Fortitude and restoration perks help offset Vanguard fragility.
Bulwark Class
The Bulwark is the tank of the game.
It lacks mobility and strong ranged options but dominates in close combat. Its Chapter Banner ability provides powerful team support.
Electric Funeral
This build turns blocking and parrying into offensive tools by generating shock damage areas.
Works especially well with Thunder Hammer.
The Tank
Simple concept: stack damage reduction and absorb enemy attention so teammates can safely deal damage.
Hold Fast
This build focuses on long-lasting banner effects for defensive team positioning.
Savior
The well-known healing build.
By combining banner placement with execute states, you can fully heal teammates or revive them safely.
Shields Aren’t Weapons?
This build turns shield bashing into an offensive mechanic, enabling crowd control and large melee buffs.
Hammer Time
Using Thunder Hammer removes the shield but converts shield perks into hammer buffs, allowing massive alpha strikes.
Bulwark Prestige Picks
Auxiliary Reload should be taken first due to ammo limitations.
Powerful Shot, Standard Bearer, and Masterful Defence are strong follow-ups.
Sniper Class
Despite the name, the Sniper isn’t strictly long-range. It specializes in eliminating high-priority targets using Camo Cloak.
Sniper Build
Classic headshot-focused setup using Bolt Sniper Rifle or Las-Fusil.
Headshots recharge cloak and allow continuous burst damage.
Assassin Build
Uses Combat Knife with cloak for stealth melee burst.
You close in, perform Shadow Stabs, and eliminate key enemies quickly.
Designated Marksman
This is the supportive role.
You stay at range, provide cover fire, throw grenades, and rescue teammates using cloak.
Sniper Prestige Picks
Versatile Precision helps solve ammo issues.
Emperor’s Grace provides emergency safety during cloak usage.
Heavy Class
The Heavy trades mobility and melee for overwhelming firepower.
Its Iron Halo ability creates a directional shield for defense or offense.
Heavy Bolter Build
Kill-streak perks maximize sustained DPS against hordes.
Heavy Plasma Build
Charged shots deal huge damage but require careful heat management.
Relic Plasma Build
Transforms the weapon into a rapid AoE damage tool.
Multi-Melta Build
Close-range burst weapon requiring aggressive positioning.
Pyrecannon Build
Area denial weapon focused on damage over time.
Heavy Prestige Picks
Auxiliary Reload is essential.
Duellist, Indomitable Spirit, and Conviction improve survivability.
Techmarine Class
The Techmarine has unique mechanics including Servo-Gun attacks and deployable turrets.
Demolitions Expert
Focused entirely on grenade synergy and rapid replenishment.
Percussive Maintenance
A melee-focused build using Servo-Gun support.
Turret Master
Maximizes turret damage and ranged firepower.
Techmarine Prestige Picks
Chained Headshot is the best early pick.
Furious Gun Strike and Defensive Stance are strong follow-ups.
Team Perks Note
These builds prioritize self-synergy rather than team synergy. In coordinated squads, adjusting perks to complement teammates can be more effective.
