If you’ve been playing Core Keeper for a while, you probably noticed something: the world feels much easier once merchants start moving into your base. Suddenly, you’re not scrambling for basic resources anymore. You can buy rare items, summon bosses whenever you want, and unlock crafting stations without endless grinding.

But the game never clearly explains how to get all these NPCs to stay with you permanently. That’s exactly what this guide is for. Let’s walk through each merchant, how to summon them, and why they actually matter.

Before we talk about specific NPCs, there’s one rule that applies to all of them.

Every merchant needs a proper room before they’ll move in.

That room must be completely enclosed by walls. A door counts as a wall, so you don’t need to overthink it. The room also must be between 2×2 and 8×8 tiles in size.

Inside that room, you must place a bed and the merchant’s unique summoning item. Once those conditions are met, the merchant will appear automatically after a short delay.

Also, one important detail many players miss: merchants restock their inventory roughly every 25 to 35 minutes, so if something is out of stock, just wait.

Bearded Merchant

This is usually the first NPC most players meet.

He becomes available after you defeat Glurch, the very first boss. To summon him, you simply place the Slime Idol inside a prepared room.

This merchant is incredibly useful early on because he sells basic resources that you’ll constantly run out of.

He offers crafting stations like the Pouch Workbench and Distillery Table. He also sells scrap parts, fiber, and early ores like copper and tin. Later in the game, after activating certain boss statues, he starts selling iron and even gold ore.

If you’re tired of running back and forth mining basic materials, this merchant feels like a lifesaver.

Cloaked Merchant

After defeating Ghorm the Devourer, you unlock the Cloaked Merchant. To bring him to your base, place the Mysterious Idol inside a proper room.

Before you recruit him, you can actually find him wandering inside a small dungeon in the Forgotten Ruins, which feels like a nice little discovery moment.

This merchant focuses heavily on boss-related items. He sells summoning idols for major bosses like Glurch, Ghorm, and the Hive Mother.

Once the Core is activated, his inventory expands to include mechanical parts, gemstones, and special parchments. Eventually, he even sells items needed to summon late-game bosses.

If you like farming boss drops or fighting them repeatedly, this merchant becomes absolutely essential.

Seasonal Merchant

This one works differently from the others.

You don’t unlock this merchant through combat. Instead, you craft a Seasonal Calendar at the Loom and place it inside a prepared room.

Once summoned, this merchant changes appearance and inventory depending on real-world holidays.

Sometimes they sell festive decorations, themed furniture, and unique cosmetic items that you can’t get anywhere else.

This merchant doesn’t affect progression much, but if you enjoy decorating your base or collecting rare items, they’re surprisingly fun to have around.

Fishing Merchant

The Fishing Merchant becomes available after defeating Azeos the Sky Titan. To summon him, place the Pile of Chum inside a prepared room.

Before he joins your base, you can find him in a small area within Azeos’ Wilderness.

As expected, this merchant focuses entirely on fishing supplies. He sells various fish types, bait items, and special fishing accessories.

He also offers powerful equipment like the Sea Foam Ring and Neptune Necklace, which significantly improve fishing efficiency.

If fishing is your main food source, this merchant will quickly become one of your favorites.

Brave Merchant

This is one of the final merchants you’ll unlock.

To summon him, you need a Nuclear Battery, which is found inside Alien Tech Chests located in the Shimmering Frontier biome.

Once placed in a proper room, the Brave Merchant appears and offers some of the most advanced gear in the game.

He sells the Hazmat armor set, unusual potions, and rare decorative items. He also provides equipment useful for exploring dangerous late-game areas.

By the time you unlock him, you’ll probably already understand how valuable merchants are, and this one feels like the final piece of the puzzle.

The Natural Order You’ll Unlock Them

In most playthroughs, merchants appear in this order.

First comes the Bearded Merchant after defeating Glurch.
Next is the Cloaked Merchant after defeating Ghorm.
The Seasonal Merchant becomes available once you craft the calendar.
Later, the Fishing Merchant unlocks after defeating Azeos.
Finally, the Brave Merchant appears once you obtain the Nuclear Battery.

Knowing this order helps you plan your progression more efficiently.

Merchants completely change how Core Keeper feels. Early on, you struggle to gather resources. Later, with the right NPCs at your base, everything becomes smoother, faster, and more enjoyable.
