The Severed Hand is the very first clue tied to Resident Evil Requiem’s hidden “Final Puzzle.” Most players pick it up and assume it’s just a story item because the game never explains its purpose. In reality, this strange object is the key that unlocks the entire mystery.
Here’s exactly how to use it and what it leads to.
Where to Find the Severed Hand
You’ll obtain the Severed Hand shortly after escaping the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center Basement with Emily.
As Grace reaches the first-floor central hall near the elevator, an enemy ambush occurs. After the encounter ends, the enemy leaves behind the item on the floor.
Simply pick it up and it will go into your inventory.
At this point, it appears completely useless. It doesn’t open doors, doesn’t combine with anything, and doesn’t trigger any obvious interactions — which is why many players ignore it.
Where You Need to Take It
The Severed Hand only works at a very specific type of device: a Laser Microscope.
You can find these in two locations inside the Care Center:
• The Blood Lab in the East Wing
• The Office Lab in the West Wing
Either location works the same way.
How to Use It
Interact with the Laser Microscope as if you’re analyzing a normal blood sample.
Instead of choosing a regular sample, select the Severed Hand from your inventory.
The game will then prompt you with the familiar atom activation puzzle — the same mini-game used earlier for blood analysis.
Solve it normally.
What Happens After Solving It
Instead of unlocking a crafting recipe like usual, the screen changes and displays a cryptic message:
“Let’s play.”
GGC AAG AUA ACG UGU CAU
This sequence looks like RNA code, and it becomes the foundation for every puzzle that follows in the Final Puzzle chain.
Using the Severed Hand does two major things:
First, it reveals the mysterious RNA sequence needed to solve later puzzles.
Second, it activates a hidden interaction — the safe in the Lead Researcher’s Office becomes usable again after this step.
Without analyzing the Severed Hand, the rest of the Final Puzzle cannot be solved.
Do not discard the Severed Hand — it cannot be reacquired if missed in your current run.
You can analyze it anytime before leaving the Care Center, so there’s no need to rush.
If you forget to use it, you can still return via Chapter Select later.
