Rabbit and Steel may look simple on the surface, but it quietly hides a huge amount of content behind progression requirements the game never clearly explains. New difficulties unlock without much feedback, characters appear only after specific boss milestones, item sets demand very particular actions, and even the soundtrack is gated behind obscure challenges.
Rabbit and Steel Extra Mode DLC Guide – Characters, Items
This guide breaks down every known unlock condition in Rabbit and Steel, including base game and DLC content, so you always know exactly what you need to do next. Whether you are missing a character, trying to access Lunar difficulty, or hunting for the last music track, everything is explained clearly below.
How Difficulty Unlocks Work
Rabbit and Steel uses a simple, linear difficulty progression tied directly to boss kills.
Hard Difficulty unlocks once you defeat any boss on Normal difficulty.
You do not need to complete a full run. One boss kill is enough.
Lunar Difficulty unlocks once you defeat any boss on Hard difficulty.
Again, a single boss clear is sufficient.
Character Unlock Requirements
Characters are unlocked in two possible ways:
- Defeating a specific boss on Hard difficulty or higher
- Reaching a required total boss kill count across all difficulties
You only need to meet one of the conditions listed.

DLC Music Unlocks
DLC tracks are unlocked through Extra Mode challenges, special boss conditions, and collection goals, including:
- Unlocking Extra Mode
- Clearing Lunar areas without damage
- Defeating bosses under strict positional or timing conditions
- Collecting trinkets and floofballs
- Completing runs with every rabbit, item set, and loot item
Extra Boss kill requirements are dynamic, not fixed. If you unlock a reward through its challenge instead of kill count, future unlock tiers shift earlier. Because of this, exact Extra Boss numbers beyond confirmed thresholds are unreliable and may vary between players.
Rabbit and Steel rewards persistence more than perfection. Many unlocks are designed to happen naturally over time, while others require intentionally strange playstyles the game never directly suggests
