This Dark and Darker Colossus Boss Guide explains how to solo the new Colossus boss in High Roller in Dark and Darker using very little gear. The fight is long, punishing, and extremely consistent in its mechanics. Once you understand positioning, it becomes reliable rather than random.
This is not a speed-kill setup. This is a survival-first, low-gear method that prioritizes consistency over damage.
Barbarian Best Solo Choice
Barbarian trivializes several parts of this fight without relying on gear.
You start with 150 HP, which other classes must heavily invest into. On top of that, you gain free damage scaling, faster potion usage, and strong self-buff uptime. These advantages matter more than raw DPS because the Colossus is extremely tanky and will two-tap you if you make mistakes.
Using the Lycan skin helps even more by adding extra Vigor, but it is not mandatory.
Required Perks and Skills
Perks
- Potion Chugger – Mandatory. This fight is balanced around constant healing.
- Savage – Free 10% damage with no gear requirement.
- Robust – Extra HP makes mistakes survivable.
- Axe Specialization – Boosts damage and consistency with felling axes.
Skills
- Rage – Use on cooldown for damage and pressure.
- Blood Exchange – Extremely important for sustain and action speed.
Weapon Choice
A Felling Axe is strongly recommended.
- Green or Blue is ideal
- Poor quality still works
- Damage consistency matters more than speed
The Colossus has large hitboxes and long animations, making the felling axe reliable despite its slower swings.
Positioning Rule
Stay behind the Colossus at all times.
More specifically:
- Align yourself with his back center
- Aim for his left side
- Think of it as staying glued to his lower back
If you drift toward his right knee or elbow, you will get clipped unless you duck perfectly.
This fight is less about reactions and more about maintaining perfect alignment.
Phase 1 – Learning the Rhythm
Phase one is simple but unforgiving.
- Circle behind him constantly
- Swing only when aligned properly
- Back up slightly when he slams
- Do not greed hits after a slam
If you are close and positioned correctly, most attacks miss naturally. Ducking is optional in phase one but good insurance if you feel misaligned.
Phase 2 – Same Fight, Higher Punishment
Phase two introduces:
- Slightly different attack animations
- Stronger fire area-of-effect if you drift too far away
The strategy does not change.
Stay close. Staying far away is more dangerous than staying tight. If you step out of range, the fire AOE will shred your HP faster than expected.
If you end up near his elbow or knee, duck immediately before swinging.
Phase 3 – Floor Fire and Potion Management
Phase three is where most solo attempts fail.
The boss itself does not change much, but:
- Random fire puddles spawn on the floor
- Space becomes limited
- Chip damage adds up fast
This phase is all about healing timing.
Healing Rule
Every time the boss performs a slam, you have enough time to safely drink a potion.
Potion Chugger makes this possible. Without it, you will fall behind on healing.
Stay above 75% HP whenever possible. Do not wait until you are low. Fire damage stacks quickly and can snowball into death.
If you need to choose between swinging and healing, heal first.
Slam + Fist Hold Attack
When the Colossus slams and keeps his fist on the ground:
- Fire erupts beneath you
- Standing still will kill you
Circle continuously during this animation. This is one of the safest times to reposition and drink potions if needed.
Loot and Rewards
From player reports, the Colossus can drop named weapons such as:
- Soul Scraper
- Halberd variants
Loot quality is significantly better than previous boss designs, especially in High Roller.
The Colossus is not mechanically complex, but it is mentally exhausting. It demands discipline, positioning, and patience. Barbarian turns this from a nightmare into a manageable endurance fight.
Once the positioning becomes muscle memory, this boss goes from intimidating to routine.
