Nethros Magic Guide – How to Unlock Magic and Use Tomes

Step 1: Complete Pat’s Early Questline

The first magic-related gate is tied to Pat’s quests, one of the early characters you’ll interact with. While the video doesn’t show this part in full, it’s essential to complete these early quests, or you won’t be able to progress to the World’s Pulse section later.

What Pat’s Quests Do:

Unlocks the route toward intercessors and the dark cavern

Registers your progression for the game to flag your character as “ready” to receive magic

If you’re not getting magic-related dialogue from NPCs, it’s likely you missed a step here.

Step 2: Head to the World’s Pulse (Magic Cave)

Once you’ve finished the required story triggers and have 10 Soul invested, your next task is to find the World’s Pulse, a mysterious cavern that unlocks the ability to absorb magical resonance.

Location Guide:

Start from the main quest hub

Make sure you have a glider equipped

Climb to the upper cliffs near the intercessors area

Look for a dark opening in the rock face (this is the entrance to the cavern)

The video recommends mastering jump-climbing: angle your camera away from the wall while climbing and tap jump to climb higher efficiently. This tech makes reaching tight ledges easier.

Step 3: Navigate the Darkness – Parkour Through the Cavern

Once inside, prepare for pitch-black parkour.

This is the trickiest part of the magic quest and the most common place players get stuck or fall. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Use your glider to soften large drops
  • Drop carefully onto small ledges—many aren’t visible until you’re close
  • Take your time — rushing will almost certainly make you fall
  • You can climb back up in most sections if you mess up

There are no enemies here, but if you fall to the bottom incorrectly or panic, you might lose progress or die. Patience and steady movement are key.

Optional: If your screen is too dark, raise your monitor brightness or use windowed mode to adjust visibility.

Step 4: Interact with the World’s Pulse

Once you reach the bottom chamber, you’ll encounter a glowing object — this is the World’s Pulse.

  • Interact with it to gain Soul Resonance
  • This unlocks your ability to begin using magic spells

Congratulations, you’re now attuned.

Step 5: Visit the Mage and Buy Your First Spell

After unlocking resonance, head back to the Mage NPC in the main hub or near Avalon.

Requirements to Buy a Spell:

  • 1,000 Currency
  • Soul Resonance unlocked

Once purchased, you’ll be given your first spell tome. In the video example, the player gets Rising Geyser, a spell with launch or buff effects.

How Magic Works (Spellcasting & Tomes)

1. Casting Input System

Every spell uses an input sequence similar to a fighting game or rhythm minigame:

  • Example input: Up > Down > Left > Up
  • Complete it quickly to successfully cast the spell

Failing the input cancels the spell. This makes casting in combat harder, so pre-casting or practicing inputs is important.

2. Spell Tomes

Spells come from tomes which you can buy or discover. These give you specific magical abilities, including:

  • Phoenix Lance
  • Rising Geyser
  • Defensive buffs
  • Area effects

Each tome may align with a particular element, theme, or build — expect more variety in future updates.

Other Magic Notes

  • Magic is soul-based — make sure you’re investing into the Soul stat to unlock more spell potential
  • You’ll likely unlock more powerful spells as your Soul stat and magic level increase
  • There are absorbable objects around the world (like the “lightning rune” object shown in the video) — some will grant new effects once you’re attuned
  • Spellcasting will likely tie into combat synergy, so combine them with melee builds, dodges, or flow mechanics

Unlocking magic in Nethros is a multi-step journey that feels earned. Between precision climbing, navigating darkness, and learning spell inputs, magic is built for players who commit. Once unlocked, it opens a new layer of depth to combat — one that rewards preparation, timing, and strategy.
